Why is your student running out of the classroom or starting fights? Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) is an evidence-based process for determining the reason behind the behavior. Behavioral Intervention Planning creates an action plan for addressing those findings.
Benefits of FBA/BIP Training
- Learn to complete an FBA that will:
- Define the behavior in specific, objective and measurable terms
- Determine what aspects of the environment elicit the behavior
- Identify the positive or negative pay-off of that behavior for the student. (e.g. attention, being
removed from difficult situation)
- Learn to develop a behavioral intervention plan (BIP) that will
- Change aspects of the environment or situation that trigger the behavior
- Teach alternative behaviors to meet the same needs (attention, removal from situation)
- Modify responses of other adults at school and home so the behavior does not bring a
"payoff" for the child anymore.
Training 4: August 19 & 20
Contact Community Services has excellent success in using FBA/BIPs in Success Through Early Prevention (STEP), our alternative education program operated in partnership with the Syracuse City School District.
The bottom line: FBA and BIP improve student behavior.
